Famous Escapologists
Over the years a few highly skilled entertainers have made a name for themselves in the escapology field. The following examples of famous escapologists are both based on escapologists who specialised in this as a pure medium and on entertainers who used escapology as part of a broader magician's act.
Alan Alan (Alan Rabinowitz)
Alan Alan was a famous British escapologist who is held to have created a range of tricks and stunts that have been taken up by escapologists all over the world. These tricks include the escape from a burning rope in a strait jacket.
David Blaine
David Blaine is one of the best known magicians in the world at the moment. Although best known for his street magic and endurance tricks he has also taken on a range of exciting escape projects.
David Merlini
This Hungarian escapologist has performed a range of tricks and stunts including being dropped into a pool filled with sharks in a strait jacket, weights and restraints. He also had himself encased in cement and lowered into the river Danube.
David Straitjacket
This British escapologist is well known for the number of world record breaking escapology tricks he achieved. These include the fastest escape from a straitjacket, the fastest handcuff escape and the fastest underwater escape from handcuffs.
Dorothy Dietrich
There are few famous female escapologists and Dorothy Dietrich is one the most well known. She has achieved an escape from a strait jacket while suspended from a burning rope.
Harry Houdini
Harry Houdini is probably the best known escapologist in history. He is well known for inventing the Milk Can escape where he was placed into a large sealed milk can that was full of water in handcuffs. Other acts he perfected include the Chinese Water Torture Cell.
Todd Anthony Martin
This escapologist built his reputation by escaping from various high security prison cells. He also made various hair-raising escapes that involved underwater tricks and escapes while skydiving.
